With a broken transmission, anyone got any suggestions on replacement trannys? The original tranny is SHAIT...

It's a Mazda B-platform, so a Ford Escort 5-speed will fit the chassis.

Lucky! IIRC, there's a stronger Kia transmission that should fit this car. The Ford Escort GT we got in the US is heavily based on this platform, and I've seen the rally guys swap the Kia trannies in because it takes more power and abuse. I forget which one it is specifically, but I want to say it's the early 2000s Spectra one.

I ended up selling the car without fixing it, got an offer I could not refuse (I needed the money) So nope, sorry :/
